2. CHILD PROTECTION
In Turkana West and the surrounding regions, the rights of children are among the most neglected. Many children grow up in environments where abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence are normalized, and where access to essential services and safe spaces is extremely limited. Deep-rooted socio-economic challenges, harmful cultural practices, forced displacement, and weak institutional frameworks further expose children—especially girls and those living with disabilities—to heightened vulnerability. Kalobeyei Development Unit (KDU), a grassroots community-based organization, is deeply committed to transforming this reality. We believe that every child, regardless of their background, status, or circumstances, has the right to be protected, to grow in a safe and nurturing environment, and to have access to opportunities that enable them to reach their full potential.
Why Partnerships Matter
KDU recognizes that protecting children is a shared responsibility that requires collective effort. We are actively seeking collaborations with donors, NGOs, UN agencies, government bodies, and local leaders who share our vision for a safer, more just world for children. With increased resources and technical support, KDU aims to: • Strengthen community-based child protection structures • Train caregivers, teachers, and community leaders on child safeguarding • Establish child-friendly spaces and mobile outreach services • Scale up emergency response mechanisms for displaced children • Build data systems to monitor and evaluate protection interventions
